Laminating technology with thermoplastic adhesives
The laminating process by means of a belt laminator allows two, three or even more substrates to be combined under the influence of temperature, pressure and dwell time. The adhesion between the substrates is obtained by the use of thermoplastic glues, such as films, webs, powders or melting fibres. The Klieverik systems are ideally suited for the production of materials used for:
Footwear and clothing.
Medical garments.
Disposables and dressings.
Domestic applications and wall coverings.
Car upholstery.
Industrial applications such as acoustic and thermal insulation laminates.
Almost any combination can be done. A Klieverik belt laminator is compatible with most glue application units. Highly recommended are the Powder Scattering Device and the use of numerous available thermoplastic powders.

Ecosafe™ calender |
Ecosafe™ laminating system
Klieverik has, in co-operation with leading suppliers in the automotive industry, developed the Ecosafe™. An eco-friendly and versatile system which can be used to laminate any type of substrate. It is also an economically attractive alternative to, for instance flame bonding systems. The Ecosafe™ calender and technology have been patented worldwide.

Ecosafe™ technology
The Ecosafe is a laminating concept that brings together a number of unique performance properties. This processor can operate in-line with just any thermoplastic glue application unit. Recommended is the use of a powder scattering device in combination with thermoplastic glues. However, other glue application units, such as spray coating, screen coating and other units, can also be installed in front of the Ecosafe™.
The speed of the Ecosafe™ can get as high as 100 metres per minute. This velocity can be reached because the machine only heats the glue and the surface of the 2nd substrate, instead of the whole package of materials.

Another important technological advantage is that the glue can be applied onto or into the substrate. This is a result of the possibility to regulate the temperature of both substrates separately in combination with the pressure. This implies that with optimal (minimal) glue consumption, a maximum bonding can be reached and that the hand of the laminated materials can be controlled. Also rigid materials, such as expanded polyurethane, hardboard and even non-flexible panels can be processed on the Ecosafe™ without any problem.

Double drum calender |
Double drum laminating calender
Most products can be laminated by means of a belt laminating machine with a single drum. However, in case that heat should be applied to both sides of the substrate Klieverik offers the double drum calender. By means of a double drum laminating machine 3 or 4 products can be combined in one pass.

Glue applications |
Glue application by means of Powder Scattering Device
Powder scattering is the most flexible way and cost effective way of applying thermoplastic adhesives. The Powder Scattering Device developed and supplied by Klieverik ensures a regular scattering of the powder, which gives a good surface equality in width as well as in length. |
Powder Scattering Device technology
The operation principle of the PSD is based on the natural flow properties of the powder. The powder in the reservoir is mechanically dosed into the needle belt by means of a squeegee. As the scattering roller rotates, an opposing brush dislodges the powder onto a reciprocating sieve, allowing it to fall onto one of the substrates moving underneath. The operation mentioned above ensures a uniform distribution of the powder across the substrate.
